Callaway Cars
Twin turbo 350 cubic
inch Chevrolet V8 produced some good power and reliable figures for a 1988
car at 880 horsepower (656 kW). All this power came at a reletive
low 6250 rpm which was just as well for this engine was still a pushrod
and only 2 valves per cylinder unit.
It's name is Sledgehammer
and was clocked at 409 km/h (254 mph) and was driven by John Lingenfelter
at Ohio Board of Transportations test straightaway. There is some debate
on how many were built and I have seen quotes of upto 8 cars but I believe
it was only one and is kept in a museum at this present time.
